Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair was in school from Thurs 21 Feb until Wed 26 Feb.
Year 8 and 9 students visited the Book Fair during their English or Library class time. The Book Fair was also open during junior lunch on Friday 22 Feb for Year 10 students.
Scholastic provided five £5 vouchers as prizes. Any student getting 100% in an AR quiz during the week Wed 13- Wed 20 Feb had their name entered into the draw for a £5 voucher. Three vouchers were allocated to Year 8 students and two to Year 9 students.
The winners of the five £5 vouchers were Sam Coalter, Dara Walker, Alexander Parke, Ryan McGrenaghran and John Mortimer.
Many of the items on sale were priced at something and ninety nine pence so the “pennies” box was in place for students to place any unwanted change into. This collection box raised £3.36 and the book Ghost Buddy Zero to Hero was purchased for the library.
The total spend was £303.88 which generated a commission of £75.97 for the library.
Thank you to all the students and staff who supported the Book Fair.

Liz Pichon Visit
On Thurs 8 November author and illustrator Liz Pichon visited Portora. Liz has won several awards for her Tom Gates series of books and they proved to be very popular with our students.
Pupils from St Michaels College, St Aidans Derrylin, St Marys Brollagh & Lisnaskea High School were present in the morning session then the afternoon session catered for Jones Memorial PS, Erne Integrated College and Portora students.
Liz started the session by explaining some of the characters in her books. With helpful suggestions from the students she then drew a crazy character.
After reading a portion from her 4th book “Genius Ideas (mostly)”, it was time for the students to do some work. Liz took them step by step how to do doodle art of their name. An excellent example was produced by Mr Mulholland.
There was an opportunity for students to purchase books and have them autographed by Liz.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed their time with Liz and are looking forward to her two new books in 2013.
