Dublin OPs Lunch 2009
A very successful lunch was held in the Conrad Hotel in Dublin on 5 December 2009 for 30 Old Portorans and wives. The current President of the OPU, Robert Northridge, welcomed everyone and thanked Ian Crawford for organising the event. Unfortunately was unable to attend the lunch due to a family bereavement. Robert went on to express the sadness of all connected with Portora at the recent sad deaths of Bill and Anne Barbour. The pictures below tell their own story of the party. It is hoped to hold a similar function on the first Saturday of December in 2010. If you think that you might like to attend the 2010 function, email Robert Northridge at firstname.lastname@example.org.

50th Anniversary Reunion
(Friday 15th and Saturday 16th September 2006)
Last week the Portora first form of 1956 gathered to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of their starting at Portora. Three of the 38 day boys are now deceased but Arthur Ovens worked hard to track down the others. Many are still living in Fermanagh but others have scattered, both within Northern Ireland and further a field; one in Sydney and another in Tasmania.
The reunion was held at the Killyhevlin Hotel and twelve Old Boys met for dinner along with their former teacher Victor Brennan, Ian Crawford from the Board of Govenors and Headmaster Neil Morton.
The following morning the party met at Portora for a tour of the school, to visit their old haunts and reminisce of their school days. Later several paid a short visit to former Maths teacher Rene Benson, presenting her with a bunch of flowers and a card signed by all those who gathered.

Old Portora Union (OPU) London Branch Dinner 2006
The annual dinner of the OPU London Branch was held on Friday 17th March 2006 at a venue in Central London. This year the dinner was attended by 43 Old Portorans, this is an increase over last year's attendance.
A flavour of the evening can be gained from the following photographs; perhaps you will recognise an old school pal with whom you have lost contact.
Old Portorans celebrate after 50 years
It was back in September 1955 that 28 young Femanagh boys became aquainted on their first day at Portora Royal School. This was quite an experience for eleven-year olds from remote areas of Co. Fermanagh who left home at around 7.30am to catch a bus for Enniskillen and then walk the remaining mile to the top of Portora Hill. The journey was repeated on the way home and finished at 5.30pm for some. This is only one of the many experiences reflected on by members of the Class of 1955 when they held their first reunion on Friday 16th September in the Killyhelvin Hotel. Of the original 28 boys, 3 are now deceased (2 as a result of accidents) and a further three were unable to be contacted. A total of 16 "mature men" and some of their wives turned up for a Celebration Dinner and entertained the surviving members of the teaching staff from that era, namely, Mrs R Benson, Mr B Barbour, Mr B Bell, Mr V Brennan, Mr E Rowlette and Archbishop D Caird. The event was a very enjoyable and quite emotional experience for some, who had not met for up to 45 years. The necessary toasts were very ably proposed and replied to by all concerned and it is hoped that the Class of 1955 have set a precedent for future celebrations. The reunion continued on Saturday with a visit to the School after the Portora v Methody rugby match, when the Headmaster, Mr N Morton provided refreshments and a conducted tour of the school buildings. We are sincerely indebted to the Killyhevlin Hotel for an excellent meal, to Mr N Morton for his hospitality at Portora, to Mr D Henderson for the video and DVD and Gail Magowan for the group photographs.
